THE LAST KIWI

HANDWRITTEN JOURNAL

Welcome to the world of The Last Kiwi

The first glimpse into this fully imagined world comes in the form of a weather-beaten journal.

It is the very journal of Isaiah Whatipu, a legendary general in command of Army of The Kiwi.

The story within is of his beloved country, Birdlandia, set like a green jewel in the Southern Seas, and of the Birds who populate its tranquil islands, most notably the Kiwi.

Peace-loving by nature they fill their days with whisky distilling, Moa shearing, politics and love-making, always accompanied with much song and dance.

That is until capricious eyes settle on their green and pleasant lands!

The Weasels and Stoats, in far away Weaslepotamia, a smog-shrouded industrial wasteland, eye Birdlandia and scheme to invade and conquer her.

Soon, with a vast armada of boats, they set sail and the Kiwi are forced to take up desperate arms to repel them.

This is an impossible task, especially as the Rats have joined the invaders and swollen their ranks. After many bloody battles, and with only a remnant of their army left, they retreat to take one last stand.

So it is that the General in Command of the Army of the Kiwi, Isaiah Whatipu, awaits the final battle atop Lion Rock on Black Sand Bay (Piha).

He pens his journal late at night, by flickering candle, and within its pages writes a poignant personal history of his life and that of his fellow Kiwi. On completion he dispatches a rider to deliver this most personal memoir to his beloved wife Rivulette.

At dawn the Battle will be joined ...he will put down his pen and pick up his sword in the full knowledge that he, and the brave 33 soldiers who remain with him, will become ..THE LAST KIWI.
